- HIGH RISK SECURITY ALERT
At
least nine people have been killed and 57 others injured in a
bomb attack at a restaurant in India's western city of Pune, officials
say. The explosion tore through the German Bakery, which is popular
with tourists, in Koregaon Park. The bombing is the first major
strike of its kind in India since the deadly Mumbai attacks in
November 2008. Reports that one of the dead is a foreign national
have not yet been confirmed by the Indian authorities

Pakistan:
High Security Alert,
A suspected suicide bomber has killed at least 12 people in an
attack on a checkpoint in north-west Pakistan, officials say.
A number of people were also injured when the bomber attacked
the checkpoint in Khar, the main town in the troubled Bajaur tribal
region. Pakistani security forces have been battling militants
in the Khar area. Government officials said on Friday that at
least 24 suspected militants had been killed in the fighting.

Afghanistan:
High Security Alert - REFER TO SECURITY WARNING
Explosions
and gunfire in the centre of the Afghan capital, Kabul, have left
at least 17 people dead, officials say. A suicide bomber detonated
explosives near Kabul's main shopping centre. Several smaller
blasts followed and two other attackers were shot dead. The Taliban
said it was responsible. Four Indians, a Frenchman, an Italian
and two policemen were among the dead.

| Iraq:

A series of car bombings has killed at least
118 people and wounded 197 in the centre of the Iraqi capital,
Baghdad. The first blast targeted a police patrol in the Dora
district of the city. Four others occurred near official buildings
within minutes. Iraqi national security adviser Mowaffaq al-Rubaie
blamed al-Qaeda militants for the attacks. He told journalists
their aim was to destabilise the country ahead of general elections
due in February.

Somalia
- HIGH RISK - MEDIA Targetted
Three
foreign aid workers from the Action Against Hunger group have
been kidnapped in Kenya and taken across the border into Somalia,
officials said. About 10 gunmen crossed from Somalia to abduct
the workers from the border town of Mandera. Residents said two
of the staff were from Zimbabwe and Pakistan, while the third
was listed as European. Kidnappings are not uncommon in the region
and most of the people abducted are released unharmed.
